Mullet Academy works to even the playing field for musicians. Some of Amsterdam’s most beloved venue owners, music teachers, event organisers, lawyers, and fellow artists teach you all you need to know to start your music career the right way.
But wait, there’s more! The day ends with a round of speed-dating for you to personally pitch something to the speakers, ask more in-depth questions, or explore collaboration ideas.

About the academy

A recurring, community-led series of events—workshops, panels, Q&As, and networking sessions—where working music professionals share their experience with aspiring artists.
Our mission is to democratise music industry knowledge, build community, and empower independent artists with the tools to thrive.

Independent musicians are expected to “do it all”—manage, promote, tour, monetise—with no real guidance. This, along with most music education in The Netherlands being largely in Dutch, makes it incredibly difficult to succeed as an international musician in The Netherlands.
The new generation of artists is hungry for real-world, relevant knowledge from people actually doing it. They want to stay independent, get paid, and stay sane. We’re creating the space we wish existed: honest, open, non- hierarchical, and rooted in experience.

We cover everything from songwriting to copyright law. All genres, all backgrounds, all experience levels welcome.

Every quarter (3 months), we cover an overarching topic. Within that quarter, we invite guest speakers and hosts for bi-monthly panels, Q&A sessions, workshops, and networking sessions. At the end, we celebrate with a graduation night—complete with (non official) diplomas, invitations for friends and family, and of course, live music.
